The "Euphonia" Hide-A-Phone was truly a gorgeous sculpture, designed for the most elegant of homes in the 1920's to conceal the garish candlestick telephones of that era. Sculpted (and signed) by L. C. Mayer, copyright dated 1917, this is one of two designs available in the 1920's and is by far much more scarce and uncommon (especially in this condition).
Cast in plaster and individually hand-painted, each is truly a work of art. Form over function in the literal sense, this case is hinged to allow access to the telephone, which simply sits inside on the tabletop with the wire run through the notch in the side.
This piece is in absolutely wonderful condition, with the original polychrome paint still bright and full of luster. Only very minor chipping to the backside, the cherubs feet and wings, as shown in the photos. Stands just slightly under 14" tall.
