This is an excellent piece of US military history, and a rare find in such great condition with original paint and stickers. Wear mostly to the underside and bottom edges, with minor rust in a few spots as shown in the photos (please scroll through all ten photos to see all sides). Lid is fastened down on all four sides with strong spring loaded clamps (10 total) and the case has two heavy duty spring loaded carry handles which snap down into place when not in use. Lid seals tight with a cork gasket, making this still today virtually air and water tight. These radios date to the Korean War through the Vietnam War and the Cold War, and was found with other pieces dated exactly to the Vietnam War.
Made for the US Army Signal Corps or the US National Guard for Civil Defense, this particular radio receiver case was US Army and still bears the original US Army Signal Corps sticker with case model # CY-1339/TRC which held a R-417/TRC Radio Receiver and Amplifier-Converter (AM-913/TRC or AM-914/TRC) by Western Electric Co. The R-417 was used as an ARMY/ National Guard communications center relay set.
Interior marked W.E.CO. GS-55222, lid underside marked SO-C-66846 W.E.CO., both stamped INSP. W.E.Co. 46450.
Perfect for your military collection, or as a coffee or accent table, or to safely store anything you want safe from just about anything short of a nuclear blast! We have 2 of these cases, the 2nd will be listed this coming week - Would make excellent matching end tables!
